Last month Arizona Game and Fish assisted Bureau of Reclamation in surveying the Colorado River Inflow at Lake Mead for native fish. During the survey 1 Razorback Sucker and over 50 Flannelmouth Suckers were captured. Several other species were captured including Carp, Shad, Stripped Bass, Channel Catfish, Bullhead Catfish, and Bluegill. The Colorado River Inflow is an important spawning ground for native fish and the increased turbidly allows them to avoid predation by non-native sportfish. Declining lake levels continue to make this area a dynamic environment and Arizona Game and Fish is excited to continue assisting with sampling efforts here!
